Team Sonic is the major team of the Sonic series. The team have always consisted of the main trio of the series, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The team was officially formed in Sonic Heroes when the trio came together to chase after Eggman and foil his plans. They eventually defeated him and then the real main villain of the game: Metal Sonic.
The structure of Sonic Heroes are based off of the trio with each team consisting of a speedster, represented by blue; a flyer, represented by yellow; and a powerhouse, represented by red.
The trio continue to remain a team in many other games after Sonic Heroes be it spinoff games or the main game series. The trio have been another trademark of the game franchise ever since then, being rarely apart in team-up games.
Ultimate Story[]
Having made an appearance in the story, it's only natural that the team would be part of it. However, they aren't together as much as in the game series. Each one pairs up with different Starfox team members starting in Ultimate Story 2, Sonic being paired up with Falco, Tails being paired up with Krystal and Knuckles being paired up with Misty.
