Sypha Belnades

Sypha Belnades (サイファ・ヴェルナンデス Saifa Verunandesu?) (also known as Syfa Velnumdes, Cipher Fernandez or Cipher Vernades) is a recurrent character in the Castlevania series. She is a witch from the region of Wallachia, where she initially had to conceal her identity by posing as a man in order to escape the witch trials of the time. She was introduced into the series as one of the four protagonists of the 1989-90 game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and has since appeared and/or been referred to in numerous sequels and related media. By the end of Dracula's Curse, her true gender was finally revealed and not long after she and Trevor Belmont got married, preserving with this the Belmont lineage and enhancing its bloodline with the magical powers of the Belnades Clan. The instruction booklet of the English version of Dracula's Curse refers to Sypha as a "Mystic Warlord", and the game itself refers to her with male pronouns, leading to an (purposed) initial confusion of Sypha's gender among players.

Personality

Sypha is upbeat, playful, spirited, and kind. She loves adventure, learning, gaining new experiences, and battling evil for a righteous cause. Sypha is often the heart of the team. Supporting Trevor and Alucard while always guiding their actions toward the aid of the innocent. Considering how sad and hurt both men are, Sypha's empathy greatly aided them during the war against Dracula. Although she is generally on the softer side, Sypha is also a very strong-willed woman who often speaks her mind, showing little concern for the consequences. She will not shy away from intimidating potential attackers by boasting her magical prowess, sometimes even making threats. Sypha's strong sense of justice and duty with those in need is shown by her sheer amount of mental fortitude.

As a Speaker magician, Sypha Belnades bears some of the heaviest responsibilities of her tribe. She is the prime candidate for being the "scholar" mentioned in the "Sleeping Soldier" legend, a prediction that is proven to be true. As such, Sypha is completely dedicated to waking the Sleeping Solider and saving Wallachia at the side of her prophesized allies. Sypha is highly educated in both the use of magic and the history of Wallachia, as is the primary charge of Speaker tribes. She is also very brave; entering the lair of a cyclops, confronting bloodthirsty mobs, and battling the night hordes.

Like many Speakers, Sypha is an altruistic idealist. Her conviction is very strong, even by Speaker standards. Sypha was completely adamant that the Speakers not abandon the citizens of Gresit in their time of need, even as the citizens were planning to kill her tribe. While idealistic to the point of endangerment, Sypha does demonstrate she knows how to avoid some risks; evidence being dressing like the men of her tribe to avoid danger while traveling. After reaching the Belmont Hold, Sypha comes to rethink the Speaker policy of never writing down knowledge. The Belmont library contained more information than two generations of Speakers could pass down. She still respects the Speaker way though, sharing her new knowledge with them after the war against Dracula.

She would often butt heads with Trevor Belmont at first, who opposed her idealism with apathy and survivalism. Sypha also did not take kindly to his rudeness and callous attitude. She even suggested serving Trevor her urine as a fake brew of beer to punish him for his rudeness. Unlike her grandfather, the Elder, Sypha initially had no respect for Trevor. In spite of Trevor saving her life, Sypha considered him a lost cause due to his aforementioned attitude. While the Elder made great efforts to reason with him as he stated his conviction to stay in Gresit, Sypha says: "It is time for those of us who fight this war to stand up and be responsible, Trevor Belmont. You should leave now."

However, Trevor earns Sypha's respect and loyalty when he fights on the Speakers' behalf and decides to, once again, make protecting the citizens of Wallachia his purpose. Sypha's loyalty was proven to be very strong when she chose to protect him from Alucard, her legendary soldier of prophecy when Trevor and Alucard came to blows. At this moment, Sypha acknowledged that Trevor was her savior, and they shared the same conviction.

Her relationship with Trevor deepens quickly afterward. She appreciates his occasional kind acts and enjoys teasing him. In time, she realized that meeting Trevor opened a new world of experience, adventure, and purpose for her. After the war against Dracula, she realized she didn't want to stop her adventure with Trevor. Sypha invited him to be her partner. Trevor accepted, admitting his closeness to her and how much his life had improved since they met. Their relationship became intimate soon afterward. Sypha deeply enjoys her new life as an adventuring hero with Trevor. They work and play off each other well, though she does get frustrated with his attitude at times. Sypha was hit hard by the events of Lindenfeld, getting more acquainted with Trevor's harsh experiences on the road. Luckily for Sypha and Trevor, they had each other's support even through the worst of times.

After a couple of months of traveling with Trevor, she became brashier and more of a loudmouth, especially when irritated. Trevor influenced her to take on some of his more rudy traits. By the aftermath of the events of Lindenfeld, Sypha eventually reached the point of cynicism, just like Trevor used to, being prone to cursing, much to her own surprise, and getting angry, to where Trevor himself was visibly uncomfortable with her attitude.

Double Life Emergence

Episode 7

She and her allies end up saving Lydia and Lincoln from the Cousins on Pyyrha's orders as she knows Team Free Will thanks to her aiding against Zaheer. Demonstrating her magic abilities, Lincoln is happy to see a magician/wizard as he is into magic. Though Lydia does point out he saw the ponies in Equestria so why he is suprised with Lincoln giving an answer to her. Both Sypha and Pyyrha extend an offer to help them with something they have of their own going on here.

When Lydia and Lincoln eventually agree to these terms, She and Pyyrha consider getting both Toby and Aaron to come alongside them for the ride.

Episode 8

Toby calls her up to say, he is ready and so are the others to help with their possible problem. Syphia uses her magic to bring them to the badlands and informs Lincoln as well as Lydia of the case, she, Pyyrha, Toby, AAARRRUUGGH, and Aaron are looking into someone known as "The Judge" someone who has been causing a lot of trouble and horrific crimes down in this very territory, Syhpia confirms he is not alligned with anyone other than the gang he works with so this isn't linked to the problem Carmen, 16, Lydia and Lincoln are dealing with.

She and Pyrrha take 16 with them to look into this as they have an idea on where "The Judge" is hiding out. The 3 eventually find the location of Holden as it turns out the name of the judge is Holden and being joined by the others. Syphia decides to take Holden down, and gets her 3 kinds of magic all ready in fire, ice and electrical spheres and uses them in their battle with Holden. Holden does manage to take some shots to the fire and electric spheres. Holden though is able to eventually gain the upperhand by using her endurance to his advantage and knocks her down and she freezes him albeit temporalily so Aaron can help allow them to escape. Syphia sends the kids back to help their friends as they need to figure where Holden is going with his gang next and what is this man exactly.

Episode 10

Reuniting with Syphia and AAUURRGGH, Pyrha informs Lincoln, Lydia, Toby and Aaron what they have been doing this whole time and they have found a closer location to Holden. But since they have to deal with Midas they do mention what he has been up in which Lincoln shows Pyyrha the evidence he had with Lydia and Toby.

Reading what that had received, Syphia is able to deduct that the next part of what Midas will be doing will be disrupting the weather system using science as opposed to the magic she praticed. Lydia recalls how she dealt with weather before as part of a project for school and Syphia and Pyrrha look at for her.

- AAAUUURGGH hears something and warns his friends about this as does Aaron who was distracted and it turns out to several gunshots, as well as unicorn horns which the gang ducks under. Jack Horner, Rocky, Mugsy, Nasty and El Mar Verde all seen by them and they were attempting to assassinate them. This Toby recognizes as Midas trying to kill them for sneaking around further. Syphia, Lincoln and Lydia all take out some kind of weapon ready to use with the magic in the former case, where as Lincoln does have some water in a water gun which Lydia decides to use the infinity stones to heat up to deal with it, As Toby, his wingman and Pyrrha decide to go deal with this.

Toby, AAARRUUGGH and Pyrra go chasing down and they find El Mar Verde and go to take him out as they have all try to get Jack Horner's attention by fighting Mar Verde. as Lincoln, Lydia, Aaron and Syphia go to deflect and take shots at the all of the goons and Jack Horner

- Anton though does arrive to dispatch multiple of Horner's goons and tries to take shots at the kids as well which leads to AAARRUUGGH tackle him and bruise him causing him to take more pod shots at them. Syphia eventually uses her ice powers to keep them at bay and learns that Midas sent them to assassinate them for destroying his Bliss Recipe. Lincoln believes that they have done something right to anger him there. This does extend to Syphia and Toby with the troll. Though as Lydia and the others do learn even them have strayed away from the abiss at the hands of a intimating tall albino this Pyrra recognizes is Judge Holden

Lincoln, Lydia, Toby and the others go into an abadoned camp and they find horribly mutilated and castrated bodies which horrifies the younger heroes as even kids weren't spared

The group is found by Judge Holden who was aware they were looking for him due to his omniscient knowledge. Syphia knows who he is and what he is and that this won't be forgiven and she will put him down with her friends. Holden just stands there and and they fight him once again. Though 16 isn't there, The heroes do fare better now that there is a better idea of what he is capable of. Holden does however manage to do some serious harm to the group though still by overpowering AAARRUUGGH with a hand, using a cigar to stun Syphia and then knocking her over, This time they manage to leave with actually damaging Holden a bit despite his nature. Syphia has figured he must be a demon considering how he moves like a phantom something Toby has also thought.

Syphia and her friends return Lincoln and Lydia to their friends with Toby and Aaron and find out what they did with Midas. Maria and Carmelita decide that they will go looking for this guy and deal with the criminals at hand and they will go to do the job. Lincoln and Lydia are left with 16, Toby, Aaron and the group

Episode 11

Lincoln is still shaken by what Holden did to him and Lydia notices this and asks the others what they should do about him. Syphia, Toby, Aaron and Pyyrha all understand Lydia's concern for him but feel she shouldn't push it  on him and allow him to process what Holden did to him. 16 takes the wheel to drive down to Arcadia and everyone makes their way to Arcadia like what Toby and Pyrrha suggest.

 The heroes arrive in the day and Lincoln, Lydia, 16 are introduced to Toby and Pyyrha's friends who other defenders of Arcadia from the events of 3below, Carmen's brother Juni as well as Alice and Sabrina who Lydia does remember from the past as part of the Multiversal Resistance and Alpha Team. Lydia tells a curious Lincoln about them and they discover Alice left the resistance for a specfied reason. Every member's history to joining Pyrrha's team is revealed and what they found on Holden

Alice, Juni, 16, Pepperjack, Krel, Jack and Syphia all note something is going on and it's Machine Head and Jack Horner who tossed the 3 of the Cartel mooks around with their own forces which are aliens and they go to alert the others. They arrive as El Mar Verde attacks at the dance and is joined by Jack Horner and who Machine Heads called for favors and it leads into a huge fight between Lydia, Lincoln, Android 16, Toby, Aaron, Syphia, Pyrrha, Eli, Steve, Juni, Aja, Krel, AAURRGHH, Alice, Jack, The Sabrina crew all go up against the massive cartel attack and invasion. It's hard 3 way stand off between all sides.

Arcadia is saved and it is decided in the morning that they will return back to the territory they were at and the crew decide to help out Toby, Pyrrha, Lydia, Lincoln and 16 at dealing with the Cartel and Holden when he pokes up.

Episode 12

Lydia, Lincoln, Toby and 16 are in shock of what happened to their friends as Carmen was the sole surivior of the carnage at Holden's hands. Lydia and Lincoln are both looking for their parents and Carmen infroms them they didn't find them this causes them both to begin looking to tear up feeling their parents abadoned them and the rest of the heroes go to comfort them.

Carmen, Juni, Pepperjack, Sabrina and her friends, Aaron, Pyrrha, AAARRRGGH and Syphia manage to discover as does the other side what the Cartel has been working on under Milton Midas that he has managed to do over time and decide to go chasing down this as Carmen does remember that Daffy , Speedy and the others found with pigs.

What has been discovered on the works of Holden as well as the Cartel as well as what has happeed with the heroes and what happened with Milton Midas's actions of polluting the water and manage to track down the source of what happened and this is when Midas's multiple previous plots go into play and everyone joins up to fight up against them. The Heroes then learn of what is going on with Midas's crimes going underway and how it causes a rat race. El Mar Verde is also there with Pablo Escabar, and Iron Masked Marrauder with Ardos. Through this they escape and learn they are stuck there.

Act 3

Episode 13

Syphia stays with Pyrrha while the team goes after the Pokemon Project and what Solider Boy has to do with this where they discover that Jack Sullivan has a personal stake against the Cartel due to what They are doing to his friends and what is happening to Gosalyn. Also using her powers to find out about Midas getting the governement to go after her team she helps warn the others in this regard.

Episode 14

Pyrrha's team tags a discovery to where Jack's friends are though having to deal with Machine Head and Pablo Escabar  who under Midas are working to actively stop them from getting any further. Pyrrha notes that what was made is based on magic which it how Midas has been turning people into pigs. Through 16, she also discovers that 4 of the pigs are Lincoln and Lydia's parents who Midas is fattening up with the intent to eat them which disgusts her and her friends.

She tries to tell the kids this, but is blocked by this in part to Kurbitz arresting them, so she settles to help Jack go after Pablo when it comes to his friends.

Episode 15

Using her magic, she helps Pyrrha, Jack and Android 16 in finding June, Dirk and Quint who were about to be executed by Pablo and uses them against his men as both a distraction tool and a weapon. She discovers exactly how Pablo managed to do this and and that this happened when Chakai was still alive as she finds out. It's just no one ever really found out at the time.

Episode 16

Sypha and Pyrrha decide to get the others on their operations where they work to discover Midas's operations to their fullest extent

Episode 17

Sypha and the group discover what Midas has been doing with his food plans and learns of the Payback Casuality committed by Solider Boy. Later on. Sypha helps Quint and James make the purifying machine to help with the rest of the Shadow Pokemon they need to cure as Team Rocket had no idea where to find a Time Flute.

Episode 18

Sypha assists the team in saving their friends parents from Midas's slaughterhouse and decides that she will stay to help Lincoln, Lydia and Aaron's parents return back to normal.

Episode 19

Despite her powers, she decides to help in curing the other heroes's family from their illments and with the assistance of Sabrina and Salem she is able to find a way to succeed in this.

Episode 20

She decides to help fight Anton with the team and through this also finds Solider Boy who is able to counter her this time both effectively. Though she doesn't give up and is able to help Noir fight him off before he gets too hurt in the struggle.

Episode 21

After dealing with Anton, Syphia then helps to destory Chang's machines allowing Slade's Empire to be saved from Chang's actions.

Episode 22

Later she helps the team finish the mission against Soldier Boy and the rest of the Cartel as well and uses her powers to try and fight back against Solider Boy's nuke powers while they are it.

Episode 23

She heads back to the Streaming Resistance afterwards, deciding there must be more work to do as opposed to vacation.

Chapter 5

Sypha was called in by Lydia and Lincoln to help deal with Holden, alongside Trevor who join up and help defeat Judge Holden with Team Free Will and she is relieved to have finally be ridden of Judge Holden, as he has been a pain for them all. However this situation doesn't truly change when Ucumu rises from the dead

Chapter 6

Teaming up with Trevor, Sypha helps deal with the demon use her magic powers and assists the rest of the heroes in defeating the lava demons and Ucumu. Later on she and Trevor attend their knighting with the rest of the team to establish a working relationship with Ford and his team more officially.

Book 3: Culmination

Syphia is brought in by Toby to help Lincoln and Lydia deal with N.Tropy and she overhears what has happened which she agrees to this. She also allows Jaune ARc and Johanna to join them as they do a favor for Team Free WIll which includes going through multiple time periods to the Arcane Order's attack on them and she ends up being one of the main assets against Bellroc, Skarel and King Arthur while helping protect Nani from them.
