Magnemite is a magnetic Pokemon. It was pure Electric type during Generation I, but during Generation II, when Steel type was introduced, it became Steel type, as well. This gave Magnemite a weakness to Fire types since that type is super effective to Steel types.
Magnemite can evolve to Magneton, which was its only known evolution until Generation IV when Magneton can evolve into Magnezone.
Its name may be a play on magnetite, a rock mineral. It could also be a combination of magnet or magnetite and mite, which could refer to its small size.
Magnemite attaches itself to power lines to feed on electricity. If your house has a power outage, check your circuit breakers. You may find a large number of this Pokémon clinging to the breaker box.
Magnemite floats in the air by emitting electromagnetic waves from the units at its sides. These waves block gravity. This Pokémon becomes incapable of flight if its internal electrical supply is depleted.
