Lance Sterling

Lance Sterling is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Walter) in the film Spies in Disguise. He is the world's greatest secret agent, who ends up on the run after being framed as the mastermind behind the drone attacks.

He was voiced by Will Smith, who also played Mike Lowrey in the Bad Boys films, Oscar in Shark Tale, Steven Hiller in Independence Day, Agent J in the Men in Black trilogy and Genie in the Aladdin remake.

Appearance

Lance has two forms: As a human, he is a fairly tall African-American man with a semi-built physique and bold, thick eyebrows, and his outfit is a black agent tuxedo. His pigeon form has a head covered in blue feathers, and a body with grey feathers; he retains the shape of his eyebrows in this form. Lance, in the movie, is revealed to have a tattoo of the H.T.U.V.'s logo on the left side of his chest.

Personality

Lance is smooth, suave and debonair, the opposite of his friend Walter. He handles the espionage with class and grace but he is not much of a people person, often choosing to work alone and rejecting assistance from anyone. In fact, Lance starts out with a massive ego and fires Walter for incorporating one of his cutesy gadgets into a mission despite it proving to actually be effective in the battle. He also blames Walter for turning him into a pigeon (despite him being the one who took the potion before Walter had a chance to explain what it does), and spends the first half of the movie hating Walter's guts because of it. Because of his status as a pigeon and being framed for a federal crime, he does grow into a humble person, and spending time with Walter caused him to warm up to him and realize that his inventions are useful after all. It's also revealed that a lot of his mannerisms and refusal to be part of a team stem not from his sense of arrogance, but rather the feeling of remorse after seeing innocent people die in the line of duty because of his actions, and he doesn't want others to be endangered by becoming acquaintances with him. Sterling's time with Walter allowed him to overcome this, and he now sees Walter as an invaluable ally and best friend.

Abilities and Powers

• Skilled Super Spy: Being a highly trained spy, Lance is skilled with various spy-based abilities such as stealth, hand-to-hand combat, and usage of high tech gadgets.
• Sleepy Night-Night: Lance is able to knock his enemies out cold via a karate chop technique dubbed "sleepy night-night". However, as a pigeon, this is less effective.
• Pigeon Physiology: After accidentally ingesting one of Walter's experiments and transforming into a pigeon, Lance gains various pigeon traits such as flight, full 360-degree vision, and an urge to eat food from the ground. Lance can also use his beak to cut through various materials; this is evident during the hotel chase where Lance uses his beak to free himself and Walter while tied to a falling pillar. It is shown he has gained the ability to understand them. Later Walter developed a device that allows Lance to switch between his human and Pigeon forms in an instant, significantly increasing his abilities as a spy.

Biography

Lance Sterling infiltrates a pagoda in Japan to recover an attack drone from arms dealer Katsu Kimura. He breaks in and engages in a fight with Kimura's buyer Killian, whose cybernetic arm briefly incapacitated Lance before he gets scanned by him; the two were later surrounded by Kimura's men, allowing Killian to escape with the briefcase containing the drone and leaving Lance cornered. He then used one of his gadgets to try and inflict harm on them; to Lance's surprise, the gadget instead sent exploding kitty glitter and it had the Yakuza gang incapacitated in happiness for a while, the agent included. This gave Lance the chance to catch up with Killian escaping in a helicopter and managing to get the briefcase back.

The agent soon returns to the H.T.U.V. headquarters and confront Walter Beckett (one of the organization's lesser-known scientists), for equipping nonlethal weapons into his suit. Walter tries to convince Sterling that there is a more peaceful way to save the world, but Sterling fires him before he can explain his latest invention: "biodynamic concealment".

Finding the briefcase to be empty, he goes rogue on a journey to pursue Kimura. Security forces agent Marcy Keppel reveals footage of Sterling (actually Killian in a holographic disguise) leaving with the drone, framing him as a traitor. Sterling escapes the H.T.U.V. and decides to track down Walter to help him disappear. Meanwhile, Killian breaks into the H.T.U.V. weapons facility.

While searching Walter's home for his invention, Sterling unknowingly ingests the concoction and transforms into a pigeon. Before Walter can start making an antidote to change him back, Marcy and other H.T.U.V. agents chase them through the city, but they escape in Sterling's spy car. The two track down Kimura to a resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. There, they learn of Killian's whereabouts in Venice, Italy before Marcy and the H.T.U.V. can capture them again. On their way to Venice, Walter attempts to make the antidote but fails.

Arriving in Venice, Walter is confronted by the H.T.U.V., who are unaware of Sterling's condition. Revealing that she knows about Wendy, Walter's mother who was a police officer who died on duty, Marcy tries to convince him to help turn Sterling in, but Walter refuses. Suddenly, a drone distracts the H.T.U.V. and allows Walter and Sterling to escape. The two discover the drone carrying the H.T.U.V. agent database, and Walter manages to retrieve it. However, Killian shows up, takes the database, and prepares to kill Walter. With help from hundreds of pigeons in the surrounding area, they distract Killian and flee. Disguised as Sterling, Killian escapes the H.T.U.V., shaking Marcy's suspicions of Sterling upon her seeing him with a robot hand.

Whilst underwater in a submarine, Walter reveals he planted a tracking device on Killian and locates him at the weapons facility. Walter manages to perfect the antidote and successfully turns Sterling human again. Reaching Killian's hideout, Sterling is concerned about Walter's safety and sends him away in the submarine. Once inside, Sterling confronts Killian but is defeated and captured as Killian reveals he has mass-produced hundreds of drones to target everyone at the agency using the database as revenge for killing his crew in a past mission led by Sterling. Noticing Walter returning in the submarine, Killian destroys it; unbeknownst to them, Walter survives with the help of one of his inventions, the inflatable hug.

Once Walter frees Sterling, the two escape and contact Marcy for support as the drones approach H.T.U.V. headquarters in Washington D.C. Walter attempts to hack into Killian's bionic arm. When Killian realizes this, he tries to flee via air with a drone, but Walter catches up. Walter risks his life by trapping Killian in one of his protective gadgets and deactivates the villain's arm as Walter himself falls, but Sterling, who has turned himself back into a pigeon, successfully flies for the first time and carries him to safety with help from other pigeons, while Killian is found and arrested.

Despite saving the world, Sterling and Walter are fired for disobedience. However, they are quickly rehired by the H.T.U.V. as the agency could learn from Walter's more peaceful ways of handling villainy.

Countdown To Chang's Guide To The Galaxy

Chapter 3

Truman has been busy communicating with apparently other spies Lance Sterling and Walter Beckett who were captured by The Smoking Man who also killed Killian. Sterling tells Truman that they have been investigating The Conpsiracy, and just like them they got too close to the truth.

Beckett states that they figured out The Warden has been keeping a secret operation here and that they're been working on it. Truman inquires the two on what, and Sterling states a being from an alternate dimenison that has been murdering and maybe eating people.

Beckett and Truman see Mulder and Scully who were looking for them and this is when The Warden and Vladmir show up and they have the 5 thrown in a cell to executed

Truman, Mulder, Scully, Beckett and Sterling are all tossed into the cell and this is when The Warden opens the door and this is when the Soivet Demogrogon emerges out of the door having recovered from Lincoln, Lydia and Cassie's attack on it.

Mulder, Scully and Truman are familar with the Demogorgons, but they do admit that is seems different. Bekcett and Sterling inquire that this must have been the project which the three confirm is indeed the case

The Soviet Demogorgon leaps at the 5 of them.

All 5 of them have to resort to their wits as they don't have any weapons since CSM confiscated them. Truman, Scully and Mulder being familar with it know that they need to use fire or some kind of weapon to cut it up

The three basically use the time to make a kind of weapon to do this, Beckett and Sterling though  aren't yielding and decide to stall The Soviet Demogrgon as Sterling and Beckett settle for doing so until Truman, Mulder and Scully are ready

The Soviet Demogrgon is however rather fast and almost manages to catch Beckett and Sterling  until Beckett manages to make Sterling into a pidgeon to get away from this. This baffles the three as this kid made a biodynamic concealment.

Jack takes out of the guards with ease and enters the room where he sees Sterling, Beckett invading the Demogorgon and the latter does get to them. Jack sees Truman, Mulder and Scully and saves them too. Truman, Scully and Mulder have finished up their idea, they decided to start a huge fire to ensure it can be hurt or damaged. Jack takes out a flamethrower and gives them a kick start.

Truman, Jack, Mulder, Scully, Beckett and Sterling all manage to escape from The Soviet Demogorgon with Jack locking the door in turn

Jack, The Xs, Troy, Mulder and Scully all escape and Jack gets Intel of the situation and that they will have to escape and now.

Chapter 4

Joining the crew on their way to Russia, Lance and Walter work with Jack as they recieve their contact from the president. Lance considers  upping the game against The CSM, with the death of Killian. He admits he has no love for the guy, but his death is incredibly suspcious as he was part of M.A.L.I.C.E, a group The Smoking Man was part of.

Upon meeting their contact The Crimson Paw, he with the others are given intel about what she found on the Russians. Both him and Walter stay behind to encypt the details provided by Diana.

Lance is impatient about the time it's taking though Walter tells him to calm his jets as he will manage to get their info. Walter and Lance patiently wait in the invisbile plan and this is when they finally find their infomation. It turns out Vladmir Makarov, The Warden and Berko are all involved in this. They are setting up Choronton Detnators which if set in place can be disatartous. Lance decides to contact the rest of the group and inform them of what he and Beckett found.

He is cut off before he can explain the Choronton Dentators and their effect as Beckett explains what he found. Lance and Walter decide to get the plane ready and fly it off to save them from the russians

As Jack, Mulder, Scully, Diana, Troy and The Xs deal with their forces, the two arrive and get the group back in the plane. Though Tucker, Trudy and Tuesday all have head crabs on them and Lance decides he wants to tear it off them. Though Beckett does put a stop to it, to find more peaceful means to remove them. Troy, Jack Bauer and The Crimson Paw though are not covinced it wii be that peaceful, with The Crimson Paw telling Deathstroke and his forces about it.

Chapter 5

Lance keeps a track on Makarov thanks to Jack, Though He is quick to realize that CSM and Makarov figured that Jack bugged Makarov and at it removed. This makes him realize that The CSM is no mere head of the conspiracy, but also a dangerously savvy foe.

When Truman goes to get his family out of danger, though Sterling stops him from putting himself in danger, when they break out of his and Walter's containment and helps Jack stall them to escape.

Sterling manages to get the crew successfully away from the Headcrabs and with Jack meets back up the crew, while he is tired. Despite this, he still attempts to take on Makarov who ambushed them. This works as expected and he is brought down and placed in a Russian Prison, he also finds himself strapped of his stuff.

Chapter 6

Sterling and Beckett prepare an escape way with Troy but also have to save Mulder and Scully.They run into Jack and his guys and help them with the prisoners so they can get ready to fight

With The CSM starting a invasion, he is tipped off of The Conspiracy nearly being exposure by Saul and Bender's associates.

Finale

He and the spies follow Deathstroke, Mulder and Scully and is assigned to go after The Smoking Man with Mulder, Scully and Beckett. The 4 sucessfully sneak into The Eterna City Hideout where CSM is before he goes to Spear Pillar

Sterling, Mulder and Scully fight The Smoking Man respectfully and attempt to arrest him though he escapes beforehand.It turns out Sterling, Mulder, Scully found a way to trap The Smoking Man so he can't escape. they tell Deathstroke and he states his agent is going for him.  

They do succeed at stopping Thragg's invasion at the cost of a life, and Deathstroke thanks them and recruits them to help them in his associates.

The Bad Guys and The Boys

Sterling and Beckett both arrive to assist Deathstroke with his work, when questioned, Sterling says that Mulder and Scully put in good word for them as did Truman X

He arrives to report that he and his forces did spy on Kang and learnt what they could. Lance aplogizes to Walter about that he will have to use violence here. Lance uses the pidgeon disguise to follow Kang's allies and wanders in the Quantum Realm When there he stealthfully follows Kang's robots and learns of what he intends to do rspectfully. He is also cautious not to tip off Kang and his allies

He reveals himself to the rest of the crew and the ones who go into the Realm and help free the others and then he takes on the rest of Kang's crew

Sterling and Beckett are recruited by Hobie for a side mission for himself due to what he himself learned.

En.Tropized

Part 3

The Streaming Resistance is not the only one to arrive in The Hildaverse, apparently so did Pop Pop and Myrtle who arrived with Lance Sterling, Walter Beckett and Betty Barnett. The 5 are on a undercover mission to discover any possible reimants of damage commited by the nuke detnatoated or anything else. They all wearing hazamt suits as well.

Betty and Lance Sterling do notice traces of the quarrintine breach that Pop Pop and Myrtle told them about. Pop Pop admits he had a bad feeling when those mirror agents and his wie's old enemies arrived on the scene at that train. Betty asks and has he checked on his grandson, Myrtle says that Neuman took all of the cell phones so they're just going on empty.

Larke gets in contact with Betty, Skinner and Sterling who she asks how it's all coming along. Pop Pop and Myrtle as it turned out where getting in contact with intel to try and investigate something after learning. Betty is busy working in Space to do some investigation as Lance and Sterling are more working under Deathstroke as he has some of his own suspicions going on. Larke goes to back to Betty, The Spies and Pop Pop and Myrtle and reports to them where they have arrived with Lincoln, Lydia and the others.

Betty, Lance, Pop Pop and Myrtle has finished taking care of all the chaos bots and have Walter does his own scans on them and he gives them the updates. Apparently none of their material is readable and believes that they were created by a new found material or they came from the future. Lance scoffs at this very concept saying it doesn't exist, at least not to him. Betty does think Walter may have a point as she has recalled it occurring before.

Part 4

He and Beckett report to Deathstroke what had occurred which apparently to them, Mulder and Scully have done so already

The Collective crew is called by Lydia, Lincoln and Larke who inform of their encounters with the chaos bots and The Dupus's forces in Bikini Bottom. Despite both Lydia and Larke reassuring Pop pop and Myrtle about Lincoln dealing with their old enemies. Myrtle decides to go anyway to the woods to protect her one grandson and has Walter give Sterling the pigeon serum so they can both go to help out

Part 5

Myrtle arrives with Sterling and the two are able to get into the Woods and secretingly knock out Fifi's henchmen in Myrtle's attempt to find Lincoln. He turns back into a human and covers Myrtle as she is able to help get the Streaming Resistance out to find Lincoln and his own allies out. He is does knock out Fifi's henchmen to insure no one follows them like Bender who guns down them as well.

Myrtle and Sterling decide to make a return to the others about their space exposition unaware they were being followed by Tek Knight.

Myrtle and Lance get back to their partners and infrom them of happened to them and their events with the resistance and Tek Knight which is a concern as with his abilities he could expose them as spies.

Part 6

Betty, Sterling and Beckett inform Deathstroke of what they had all seen and what had gone with the Dupus Family

Deathstroke considers that someone having breached time to settle some score against Lincoln Loud and his family. Likely from the future, he will see that if he can some authroization for going through time in case.

Pop Pop, Myrtle, Sterling and Beckett are infromed by Deathstroke that he was able to get time authroization and he was able to get a vechicle reserved for the operation. The 4 of them are informed of the constant effects of time line breaching before hand hence why he had to do this

The Spies go into the future hoping they will find some answers,

Part 7

Pop Pop, Myrtle, Sterling and Beckett arrive in the future and meet up with the rest of Neo Vought International who are opposing and fighting off the forces of Angstorm Levy and Rodrigo Redneb who are working with the N.Trophies in the future to insure N.Tropy gets what he needs for his plans. Sterling teams up with the group and proceeds to fight off Angstorm Levy and Rodrigo's enforcers which consist of alternate forms of Levy and robots.

Part 8

Beckett and Sterling continue to help the Neo Vought International forces against Angstorm and Redneb and then later go to pursue their agenda that they have pursuiting for The N.Trophies.

Part 9

Using the pigeon formula, Lance is able to discover what N.Tropy is plotting with his alternate counterpart and learns of the destruction he intends to do in the present with a death god down in Mexico and that he intended to use a False Groudon before and scapegoat Johnny Orm for it. Being a Pidgeon, N.Tropy pays him no mind and he is able to provide Pop Pop and Myrtle with this infomation. Upon returning back to the present, He and Walter stay with Deathstroke as Lincoln's grandparents decided to stay involved in the situation.

Chapter 4

Lance and his partner show up with Pop Pop and Myrtle again but also with Lincoln, Lydia, Truman, Clyde and the Cortez Kids to foil an act that Fifi Dufus is up to with her men to acquire a secret weapon for the boss. He and Lance run into the Mirror Agents and deal with them alongside the heroes sealing them off and Lance accidentaly kills Rufus. Which leads to the escape of Fifi and Ham Hand.

Book 2: Interlude

He and Walter return to aid Deathstroke and his crew when it comes to their own side of things as He brings the two to try and go undercover to discover how Tek Knight is gathering info on him to try and discredit his presidency. The Two are able to provide The President with such info that helps in that Tek Knight has been tracking some of his allies and perp sweating them to discover what they know and has been learning of their history as villains under Eobard Thawne. However this is what to leads to them being killed off by Tek himself when he catches wind of it.
