La Muerte, is the Ruler and Queen of the Land of the Remembered, and is a supporting character in The Book of Life. She is the estranged wife of Xibalba and is an ancient immortal goddess of Benevolence, Kindness, Goodness, Generosity, Purity, Forgiveness, Mercy, Hope, Love, Passion, Light and Death.
She first entered the plot of the film when she and her husband Xibalba made a bet concerning who the mortals Maria, Manolo and Joaquín.

Episode 4[]
She and Xibalba first appear when they help deal with Maria's possible insanity glove and when 16 is Mentoning the multiversal Resistance and what happened with them and his own gulity for not being to save them or saying farewell. La Muerte decides to take him to the Land of the remembered and is joined by Lydia and Lincoln
She helps 16 find the spirits of the resistance and observes Lydia and Lincoln while she is at and picks up on their facial cues, actions around each other and converstaions that they may have some real connection with each other. La Muerte shows appreciation that the two are willing to help the Android and are willing to help out deal with the actions in front of them despite their young age.
She brings them back to the living world and with Xibalba decide to keep their eyes on them in case needed.
Episode 5[]
La Muerte arrives with Xibalba to see Lincoln, Lydia and Android 16 who are touring Ancient Mexico to inspire Lincoln with his creatiity. When she hears of the wager, Lincoln and Lydia made prior, she reminds Xibalba of his own tendencies to wager things as she and him show the three what happened in Maya and the Three as Lord MItcan is Xibalba's brother. She also adds that she knew someone who was a cheat regarding the rules of waiting for the time to guide them to the afterlife and tried to kill someone before their time and La Muerte had to lecture him about though she did appreciate that he taught a lesson to him and that that person who was reckless is someone Lydia and Lincoln would know.

She is summoned by Ronnie Anne and Luz with the help of Ford, Sid and Scratch so they can travel down to the land of the remembered so Ford can look into any possible deaths of his team and maybe get some answers about the situation down here. La Muerte agrees to help, though she doesn't slip she knows his protege and her best friend when La Mauerte hears Ford mention Lydia to the others.
Part 5[]
La Muerte takes the others back to the land of the living and agrees to give a message to Lincoln and Lydia for Ford, Sid and Scratch.
Part 6[]
La Muerte manages to arrive and deliver that message to the two, though this was around Bruce and the others did so as well so there is some redundance in it.
Book 4: Falling Climax[]
La Muerte makes it possible for Lydia, Lincoln and Dawn to give their full good byes to Ford, Amanda and Cleo before the latter 3 pass on for good.
