Harpae is a young lady living in the Secret Manor, as well as the fifth character to be introduced. She is a mature and reliable girl who wants Goldia to trust and rely on her.
Shown in her theatre story, Harpae met with Goldia, who tearfully told her that she didn't want to break apart. In order to help her, Harpae became a reliable and mature person for the girl's family. However, her family rejected all her efforts to act reliable and she couldn't stand the pressure anymore, feeling that all her efforts were for nothing.
During the course of the game, it's revealed that Harpae is just an alter ego amongst Goldia's split persona, Harpae represents Goldia's refusal to see the world as it actually is. The world has its bright and dark sides, but for young Goldia, everything had to be nice, pretty and carefree without any burdens and hurdles. This made her -figuratively speaking- blind to any danger- and/or conflict situation in real life. To achieve her illusion, Goldia started to act as if she could take responsibility for any mishap and conflict within her family. Perhaps she even tried to reprimand and berate adults whenever they got into an argument or when they become troubled. And that's exactly what Harpae stands for. She, too, pretends that everything was just fine and that nothing could ever harm Goldia. Harpae's over-protectiveness compliments this, as she acts as if she was a perfect guardian, when she herself is actually blind. Most importantly, Goldia has to help out Harpae in certain situation, which makes Harpae unfamiliarly angry.
Appearance[]
Harpae has long flowing hair with a pink or peach tint, ornamented at the centre of the fringe by a blue, striped bow. Two small braids restrained with golden crosses fall from the sides onto her shoulders.
Her eyes consist of a blue gradient going whiter at the bottom. In contrast to other characters they have a much more clouded appearance, likely as an indication of cataracts or an artistic depiction of her blindness. On occasion, her irises will turn into a vivid red when she is angry, similar to Fleta's and Lisette's, with more defined pupils.
Her outfit consists of a short, blue, ruffled capelet laced with a light blue striped bow with a blue cross imprinted on each extremity; a white, long sleeved, ruffled shirt tied at her waist by a blue sash; a blue, knee-height, petticoated skirt patterned by a sole line of white crosses; and white tights with blue Mary Jane shoes, each adorned with a white cross and blue bows.
Personality[]
Harpae is both protective and self-disciplined to a fault. She wants nothing more than to keep Goldia safe from harm - particularly from Lisette, who terrifies her - to the point where she is willing to ignore the girl's concerns and limit her freedom. Harpae is strong, loyal, self-sufficient, and highly educated, able to navigate the Secret Manor with relative ease despite her disability. She tries not to show any weaknesses and insists on removing obstacles on her own. She is very proud, as she refuses any help from Goldia, insisting on doing things on her own. Being seen as useless or unable to solve a conflict highly upsets Harpae, causing her to lash out. However, she ends up apologizing for her harshness.
Owing to her rigorous studies, Harpae has many hobbies and skills, including music, painting, and literature. The contents of her bookshelves would suggest she has some experience with German and French language and culture. Many shelves in the Secret Manor's main library are dedicated to books in Braille. Her study room on the second floor indicates an interest in world history. Harpae can also sew garments and make tea.
Though she doesn't sing like Fleta, Harpae has several instruments around the manor, and most likely plays the piano. She may also listen to music on the library gramophone. If her second floor art studio is an indication, Harpae also likes to paint still lives of flowers.
Despite her appreciation for neatness, many of the lesser visited rooms in her home are in a state of disrepair, and a handful is dangerously disorganized owning to an excess of unused furniture. Several open paint tubes are left spilt on the art studio floor, and one of the upstairs storage rooms has so much junk that the door is inaccessible without moving the furniture.
Relationships[]
Goldia die Heilige[]
Harpae mainly serves as a guardian or mother figure towards Goldia, trying her best to be a person she can find comfort and protection from. She displays a lot of kindness and concern, which often results in her hiding the truth from Goldia in order to not make her worry, and her protective nature can seem almost possessive sometimes. There is nothing Harpae wishes for more than that Goldia have faith and trust in her, but due to her self-righteous and prideful personality, she gets furious when her actions are confronted with doubt from Goldia's side.
Lisette[]
While Harpae and Lisette haven't interacted on screen, it's clear that Harpae's feelings for her - based on her conversation with Goldia - consist of worry, fear, and contempt. Harpae tries to avoid Lisette as much as possible, and advises Goldia to do the same. But Harpae, apparently, does not see evil in Lisette as such, because he calls her “a very sick child”.
Fleta'[]
While drinking tea together during their first meeting, Goldia asked Harpae if she knew who Fleta was. Harpae replied that she didn't, although she did say it sounded quite familiar.
