Dragonite (Japanese: カイリュー Kairyu) is a dual-type Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation I. This Pokémon is known as the Sea Incarnate. Figureheads that resemble Dragonite decorate the bows of many ships.
It evolves from Dragonair starting at level 55. It is the final form of Dratini.
Dragonite is a very special Pokemon and one that can be difficult to find or even own since it evolves at such a high level. Its first predecessor, Dratini can be an elusive Pokemon, making it harder to be able to own a Dragonite. They are very rare and greatly popular amongst Pokemon trainers and Pokemon collectors. Evil organizations such as Team Rocket would go out of their way to find and obtain a Dragonite by any means necessary regardless of what they would do to get one.
Dragonite is capable of circling the globe in just 16 hours. It is a kindhearted Pokémon that leads lost and foundering ships in a storm to the safety of land. If it spots a drowning person or Pokémon, Dragonite simply must help them.
A trainer who is famous for owning a Dragonite is Drake, a Dragon type specialist as well as a champion in the Pokemon League.
In Pokemon Black and White, Iris, a young girl who dreams of becoming a Dragon Master, found a Dragonite trying to protect other Pokemon from a Hydreigon that was harming other Pokemon. After she and the others in her group were able to help it, it decided to become a member of her team. However, unlike most Dragonites, this one is cranky, arrogant and is almost always seen scowling.
Its name may be a combination of dragon and knight, or night. It could also refer to draconite, a mythical stone that is said to be found in the heads of dragons.
