Caterpie is a Bug-type Pokemon that takes on the appearance of a large caterpillar. Its evolutionary line consists of Metapod and then Butterfree, its final evolutionary form.
Caterpie is one of the weakest Pokemon. Thankfully, it isn't very difficult to evolve it. It evolves into a Metapod at a very low level.
Caterpie has a voracious appetite. It can devour leaves bigger than its body right before your eyes. From its antenna, this Pokémon releases a terrifically strong odor.
Its name is a corruption of caterpillar. It is the same as its Japanese name.
Ultimate Story[]
Much like the anime, Ash caught a Caterpie effortlessly. He was able to raise it all the way to a Butterfree.
Much time afterwards, he let go of that Butterfree to mate with another Butterfree.
Krystal also caught a Caterpie and raised it all the way to a Butterfree. That Butterfree has been her signature Pokemon as well as one of her best friends.
