"Maria Arzonia is a hero. She is a lighthouse amongst the dark mist and shadows that surrounded us. In this savage world filled with nothing but despair, we cannot lose hope to bring peace and end this war. This girl tells us, not with her words, but with her actions, that you need to do what you should have done in this war, or more and more people will get hurt. We cannot tolerate Mafusa Gang anymore. We cannot tolerate the KnightWalkers anymore! This war needs to end... and now, ladies and gentlemen, I annouce the foundation of the Catholic Rebels in the name of Ms. Arzonia!"

Whereas the Big Bad is considered the ultimate evil to be defeated, the Big Good is the cornerstone of any heroic organization. This character is explicitly stated to be a counterpart to combat the forces of evil, likely calling all the shots in the organization and is normally the highest ranking or the absolute most powerful.

Since The Hero is usually, but not always synonymous with the protagonist, the Big Good does not always fill that role, as it is usually more dramatic for the protagonist to work upwards from the bottom. It may be stated (at least in the beginning) that The Hero is expendable whereas this character is not.

The Big Good is simply the most valuable member of the heroic movement in a given work, whether in terms of rank, function or wisdom. If not The Hero, then they will most definitely be the mentor to craft The Hero into being the weapon they need him to be.

Examples[]

  • Optimus Prime (Transformers) is one because he leads the Autobots who are gods and is unwavering in his compassion and care for others.
  • Lizbeth was revealed to be one in The Great Time Travel Adventure because she showed authority, has depth and is basically incorruptible. Though it was a one time story deal though
  • Ford Pines is this for Team Free Will as well as the team leader. Ford has connections to nearly every main villain of Phase 4 outside of The SMoking Man, The Prankster and Dr.N Tropy. Stanford seems to have a great deal of knowledge and skill and has genuinely good intentions as well while being Lydia's main parental figure and mentor.
  • Deathstroke Wilson, despite being a villain upon introduction and the personal right-hand man of Eobard Thawne, Deathstroke became the Nothern Multiverse's President and serves the role for Phase 4 onwards despite being grey morality wise. He is a key ally to both the A and B Plotlines of Phase 4, being a benefactor of Team Free Will and who employed Bender to his office to work off the books as a private investigator as well as a jack of all trades when it comes to more questionable actions. Despite his grey morality, he is out to indeed make the multiverse a better place like he said when he worked for Eobard Thawne
  • Angewomon (Digimonis one because she is the Angel of Light and Hope and if that ain't big good materia,l what is?
