Anders is Hilda's father and the former husband of Johanna.
The character is never seen or mentioned in the graphic novel series, but he is featured in Season 3 of the animated series. He also appears in the final two books of the Hilda Tie-In Series.
Anders is a Caucasian man of middle age with blonde hair and a moustache. He is usually clean-shaven, but grew a beard during his stay in Fairy Country.
Anders is an adventurous man who cannot stay in one place for long. He also has trouble keeping to a time schedule and not afraid to go against the rules, like allowing Hilda to drive a car even though she's too young for that.
Hilda inherited her sense of adventure from him. According to Johanna, Anders always disappears suddenly and without warning to his next adventure whenever he feels overwhelmed.

Prologue[]
Anders first shows up at Royal Woods, having tailed Lydia and Lincoln to try and reunite with his daughter and he sees Hilda and Johanna there too. Before he can announce himself he sees Jaune with him which causes him to hesitate. Though he gets the courage to see Johanna which causes some disarry with Jaune as he didn't know Johanna was married to Jaune
Lincoln, Lydia, Hilda, Frida, Clyde and David all meet up with him and he recalls how he found Hilda and Johanna throught the former two. Lincoln and Lydia both give looks to him in regards to be stalked by Anders just to find Hilda. Jaune calls out Anders for harassing the kids just to see Johanna who has since moved on to him and an intense air comes between him and Jaune over this.
As he reunites with Johanna and Hilda, he discovers what had happened to Lincoln and Lydia and he tries to figure out if it even happened. He decides to help his daughter try take charge of the team and help save them.
Chapter 1[]
Anders waits on Johanna with Hilda and Pippi as Anders takes interests in Pippi's own long adventures and quests. When Johanna comes back, he and Jaune get into a shoving match who Johanna should tell first about what happened.
Upon hearing about Johanna knowing Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, Anders get fanboy like as he is a fan of Mulder's work admits to shipping Mulder and Scully. He asks how Johanna knows them and Johanna explains that they saved her and Hilda's life as well as Jaune's while taking in Lydia Lopez who Johanna came to see as a second daughter to her. Anders asks what She sees in him but Johanna dodges the question. Anders has a photo of Mudler and Scully and he wants them to sign it.
Anders is ambushed with the other adults by Mr.Crocker who has come to capture a fairy and he tries to defend Johanne from Crocker but Crocker uses his high tech gear to keep him down as Anders has an idea on why Crocker is here.
Anders similar to Jaune is trying to find Crocker which he doesn't as Jaune managed to stop Crocker. He blocks Jaune from knowing what Johanna knows and Anders asks what Johanna hasn't told Hilda or Jaune the truth about who she is. He admits he doesn't like Jaune, but feels Johanna is doing a disservice to him, when she states when she is ready to tell them, Anders ask when will that be.
Part 2[]
Anders and Johanna join Pop Pop, Myrtle and Jaune as they do their own work on the encremments the Spider Frog left during it's enconuter with JohannaAnders ensures the safety of the other kids and helps Dawn and Ruby deal with Chelesa who also arrived with his knowledge on Mermaids which he learned during his time.
Jaune calls Anders out on his stalking of Lincoln and Lydia on Johanna's behalf and makes a promise that he'll tear him apart if he endangers any of them. Anders focuses on Jaune's panic over the Upside Down. Anders asks why would Jaune let Hilda go there even once, saying that as much as he loves exploring and adventuring, Even he wouldn't dare explore and investigate there considering it a living hell
Anders and Jaune do find common ground with their fondness for Mulder and Scully as well as feeling Hilda is smart to look up to the former. He straights out admits that as much as he stills loves Johanna, he also was worried about Hilda due to these dealings as well and wanted to spend time with his daughter so the last time he wouldn't see her was years ago. Anders has no answer about why he knows about the Upside Down when Jaune asks. Astrid tells Anders and Jaune about how she met the F.B.I Agent as well.
Part 3
Ruby, Dawn and Anders are are on a stake out trying to keep their eyes on Chelsea and Chandler who have been in contact with Francis and they learn respectfully that the group is on and that it was more helpful to harness the energy that came from that pokemon. Anders and Ruby do seem confused about what they meant. Dawn though has an good idea and explains about the Eterna Forest having a poltergeist posessive like Pokemon in the Old Chateau. She thinks a good idea would to go there and Catch Rotom or study it.
Anders agrees, he has no idea what a pokemon but thinks she has an good idea. Ruby decides on swimming to the Sinnoh Region, Dawn just states that they could just use a ship, Anders asks if Dawn knows one and Dawn does show him a phampet.
When Hilda and the others come back, he learns what happened to Jaune and he straight calls out Hilda for not thinking things out and endangering herself in the Upside Down. Anders admits he did influence this, but even he wouldn't go to deal with the Upside Down. Anders does call Jaune an idiot for allowing her to and he doesn't tell Hilda about his own knowledge
Will arrives there having the others question what she is doing here and who is she. Clyde and Pippi know who she is and explain their history. Frida, Will and the others check Jaune and Will notes it's fairy sickness and that it comes from something and she is aware that they went to a place where fairies do exist. Hilda is exictied to learn it does exist, but the others tell Hilda to keep it butted.
Hobie talks with Luna on this about the situation of fairy illness. Anders arrives and questions them, Hobie states they're talking about Jaune and Johanna and traveling. Anders offers to keep an eye on them while they do so.
Chapter 2[]
Johana approaches him and talks to him about Fairy Illness that Jaune has. Anders says the wrong thing which angers her. Though Anders doesn't understand why Johanne would take issue with the fact that Anders stated that he knew the Upside Down would catch up to him considering how for such a badass on paper Jaune seems to be, he is terrifed of anything that has to do with the upside Down. He does admit though that it's a normal reaction and to his credit he does at least help Johanna get Jaune to safety after Crocker beats him down.
Part 2[]
Anders and the others break into the Middle School to try and find a way to help Jaune but to no avail As the others all wait and eat Cafteria Food. Anders admits to Jaune about something he dealt with. Anders is called out by Jaune by not being there with Johanna and Hilda, Anders explains to Jaune that he didn't intentionally mean to and he was trapped in the Upside Down.
Anders was investigating during his adventuring and exploring phase and he ended finding a tadpole like creature which ended up being a trap. Anders got attacked and sucked into the Upside Down by a Demogorgon. He was captured after avoiding it for a time and he stared down Vecna who basically kept him prisoner and shoved tendrils down his throat.
Anders didn't tell Johanna since he felt she wouldn't believe him, Jaune says she would. They dealt with this and trust him it's the reason he and Hilda are on edge. Anders states he wasn't the only person trapped there was a kid as well. Jaune asks who, Anders state he needs to regain a bit of his memory on this one.When Hilda comes to get him respectfully, Anders decide to head off with her. Anders does remember that he saw a boy trapped in there and how he was running from something for weeks on end just like he was. Anders has PTSD regarding the events and decides he needs to tell ex wife about the events in the Upside Down.
Part 3[]
Anders comes along with the others to Trolberg like the others though he hears Jaune badmouthing him with Johanna and this angers him starting a fight with Jaune over this and he has to be calm downed by Hilda and Johanna respectively
Clyde and Frida compare him to Hilda in a subtle way when it comes to what happened with them respectively.
Anders tries to sleep off things, but has nightmares that Creel is after him and how he was captured by him and force feed manure, chemicals and cleaning supplies as he screams in terror at what Vecna is doing to him.
Chapter 3[]
Anders arrive with his other folks to the apartment of his ex-wife where he finds those dogs and Anders is affectionate with them petting them as he heard the plan. Hilda and the others decide to camping respectively so Hilda can find more fairies respectively as Fox believes this. Anders agrees with Hilda on this
Anders and Astrid discuss if he has told HIlda and Johanna about his own encounter with that thing he mentioned. Anders says he doesn't know if they believe him, Astrid informs him that the two will as she learned this from Hilda and Johanna
Anders has flashbacks of being forced to being dissolved by the Mind Flayer/Vecna into a flesh body which then exits the Upside Down as it starts to head to a hopsital respectively at Hawkins where he is flayed and is part of the corpse bodies in Royal Woods when Vecna attacked there and purses Lydia and Lincoln who were there trying to find out what happened to their families.
Anders is attacked by N.Tropy's men with the others respectively and he decides to try and do something upon Mr.Crocker trying to capture Astrid, Johanna and Hilda. He and Jaune nod as they much as they dislike each other, Crocker is after Hilda's family and that will include him. Anders pins down Crocker and has Jaune saving them respectfully using what energy and power he doees have. Then Anders let Jaune maul Crocker before he gets away. On the run, Anders tells Johanna and Astrid that Hilda needs to know the truth and needs to know it now.
Mulder arrives to find them and Anders is estatic and acts like a total fanboy to him explaining to the others that Mulder was an inspiration for his own desires to explore and investigate the supernatural. Anders explains the fairy origins to Hilda with AStrid and Johanna and when Hilda goes off on her mom about lying about this. Anders defends her and explains that he just wanted Hilda and Jaune to know about this, which leads to HIlda making it apparent to him that she hated that Anders can't be a consistent parent, and that he keeps coming in and out of her life, While she does love him, HIlda feels more parental bonds to Jaune Arc and Mulder, despite the latter not being part of the family
As his daughter runs away, Anders feel guilt noting that he may have had a hand in this,
Part 2[]
Anders had Ruby, Pippi and Hobie go looking for Hilda thinking they're the best choices due to what he and Johanna did. He talks to Mulder about their work and if Scully is with him and she is. Anders accompanies Jaune and Johanna to try and find Hilda heading into Trolberg despite Jaune's protests though he does allow it ultimately. The three find The Spot respectfully and try to stop him from detonating it
The Spot is unlike anything Anders has faced and Jaune admits this too and Anders tries to get info out of him regards to Hilda. Spot informs him that she is out of the way but not hurt significantly. Anders then get knocked off the bell tower by the bell chiming cleanly feeling some trigger in part to the resemblance of a grandfather clock. Johanna saves Anders as Jaune leads the others to the Nowhere Space to get to safety
Anders decides now that Jaune knows about Johanna being a fairy, he decides he needs to tell her about his encounters with Vecna and The Upside Down and how he was stuck there for longer than thought and how he was controlled and flayed to attack her two adopted kids.
Chapter 4[]
Anders wants to find his daughter, but Jaune has him stay and takes Scully and Mulder with him so they can stay safe from the fallout. Anders is reffered to by Lydia Lopez in her talk with Hilda and Lincoln about Hilda's father and is referred to again by Phinium and Lydia respectively
When Hilda gets back, Anders is glad she's fine and the two decide to talk about what has gone as Hilda has some time to think.
Part 2[]
Anders decides he has to tell Hilda about he dealt with in the Upside Down and his encounter with Vecna, his possession and being forced into the Mind Flayer where he attacked Lydia, Lincoln as well as Johanna, Jaune and Hilda as well. Which he does
The group arrives at Lydia's old school and Mulder and Scully lead the way briefing the group about what happened the last time they were here as they head to the boiler room. Upon there, he meets Walter Skinner who Mulder and Scully got into contact with as well as Raticus and Marcus. He curiouslt studies the former as well.
As the others go out to study the school for something, Anders stays with the other adults and sighs in relief that his nightmare with the Upside Down is over as Marcus confirms this to him respectively. Once something goes wrong in part to the villains, Anders works with the other adults to fix the computer respectfully
They manage to succeed and he decides to stay look out with the others as Hilda, Johanna, Jaune Arc, Mulder, Scully and Astrid go off to save Phinium and Lydia from Mr.Crocker, Spot and The N.Trophies
Chapter 5[]
While he waits for the others, respectfully. It turns out he kept something from him and Johanna's time before they divforced. Johanna's wedding dress and Anders tell the group that he will give it to her when she gets back.
He and Ruby discuss it's meaning and Ruby tries to convince him to just accept Jaune is the better man. Anders tells her, he decided to give to her for that reason, he has accepted he has lost Johanna in part to what he heard go down with Hilda, The Lopez Girl and The Loud Boy from Johanna. He wants to set a better example feeling Hilda was emulating his behavior.
Anders and the others are ambushed by the rest of Spot's associates and Anders tries to deal with them respectfully as he waits for the others to get back
Hilda does get back and helps Anders and their crew deal with the rest of their problems as The Streaming Resisitance and eventually Lincoln and Lydia show up to save the day
He presents Johanna with her wedding dress to tell her, that he didn't abadon her and kept this with him through his adventures. He accepts Johanna wants to marry Jaune Arc admtting that he has to set a good example for Hilda considering Lincoln and Lydia and how she nearly died over this and talks to Hilda before letting her handle what is going on.
Chapter 6[]
Anders notices The False Groudon and is terrified and tells his family to make bail as this is something he ain't going near. He joins the family in Crocker's Van as he confirms what Crocker has said about fairies and as he himself did own his investigations
Though they get close, Anders is tentacled and caught by the monster respectfully. He is eventually freed by the others
After Trolberg starts it's way to healing, Anders asks for help looking for a place to rent as he has decided he is going to move to Trolberg to stay in touch with his daughter. Hence the reason he came back to be more active in his daughter's life after everything he dealt with at Vecna's hands
Epilogue[]
Anders visits Johanna's house with Mulder and Enid to tell her and Hilda the news. That he is now living in town with them and Enid Sinclair for the time being. He explains that Mulder and Scully hired him to help on their investigations and that while he will still adventure, he will buckle down a bit. He wonders if Hilda is considering something

Mulder and Scully find Anders and discuss the case they are looking into regarding Hilda, her family and Jaune Arc. Mulder believed that with Anders being aware of Hilda's adventuring lifestyle and that he inherited it from her and this does seem to work as Anders while not aware of evil trolls outside of Trundle, does seem to know a thing or two about petrification.
Enid arrives to join up with the two as Anders explains his theories could be about gorgeons too as they have the ability to do so, When Enid understands what Anders mean as she was in love with a stoner gorgeon. Anders questions on why Enid didn't tell him this when they discussed her life and time at Nevermore. Scully defends her and Mulder talks to Enid and Anders confesses to Scully that he feels that he failed Hilda once, and won't do so another time. This is why he came to help them as they told them about her and what happened though also it's in part that had no idea Enid's academy was a place ripe for what he looks into to. Mulder, Scully, Enid and Anders head to Nevermore for this very answer.
Mulder and Scully apporach Eugene while Enid and Anders go looking for Ajax for answers and Eugene does give his own answers that he believes it was some kind of magic used by trolls as Lincoln, Lydia and the others were here too are in the know about it. Anders and Enid discover that it couldn't have been Enid's beau Ajax as he is mostly as the ability can be turned off as long as he has his snake hair covered and the condition occurs only for a day or two. Anders sees this ability to prevent a petrfication fasinating and writes it down.
He reports this to Mulder, Scully and Eugene about what he suspected and is relieved Ajax was innocent. Mulder notices and discovers who really did so in Angor Rot and Gunmar who are evil trolls recalling what Blinky told him. Anders eagerly goes with them to find the troll hunter killer and the Gumm Gumm Leader Gunmar.
Part 8[]
Anders, Mulder, Scully and Enid all manage to find the Gumms Gumms and Angor Rot who Anders want to know what he had did to his own daugher. Angor Rot infects him with pixies and he is terrified of what he dealt at the hands of Vecna despite what he tells himself and having to watch Hilda getting her limbs broken and eyes gouged and how he is being held in place by tentacles. Anders also feels he like has failed his wife and proved Jaune and Lydia both fully fight about him as Anders deep down wonders why Jaune and Lincoln's girlfriend distrust him like they do as he never did anything to him.
He is saved by Daniel Russo and then Anders joins up with the others to get any answers he needs and nearly kills Usurna until he is told he will be no better than them if he kills her. Toby arrives and explains what he knows on this. Anders asks Mulder and Scully to get info for him so he can fine what he needs to save his daughter. Upon compliance, Anders is told by Toby's history with what he is dealing with and considers it with him and thanks Toby. When Enid returns back to her friends, Anders decides now it's time to find the trio what they need to get regarding how Toby saved his wingman

Joining Eugene, Mulder and Scully, he heads to Arcadia and is joined by Wednesday and some of the Streaming Resistance where Anders discovers from JIm, Claire and Blinky about the effects of what happened to his daugther and how Toby managed to get his wingman back. Anders does not feel comfortable dealing with changlings and the Jauns Order as he knows they are dupclious creatures depsite what Jim Lake tells him about some decent ones and it's the only way to do so as he tells Scully what they need to save them. The Gumms Gumms do arrive with the intent to get them out of the way, and Anders decides to attack Queen Usurha holding her reponsible for what happened to his family and Enid joins him to do that. Working together the two are able to get info on Usurna and how she found about Hilda through her boss who is acting against Team Free Will and The Streaming Resistance and Anders is nearly stoned himself, but Enid stops this.
Anders then notices The Changlings trying to take Phiinuim and Lydia and gets Doug Judy and Wednesday to take along with him which they agree and he manages to outwit the Changlings to get them back with Mulder and Scully helping him there. Anders tells Jim that he needs to reconsider what he said about Changlings, Jim says that many of them are but he knows some good ones or ones that became better in Non Enrique, Stricker and Nomura. Later on he learns that Frida was also effected from Eleven and he decides that they must save his daughter and ex wife first before dealing with a death god in Mexico, which Mulder and Scully reluctantly agree to.
Chapter 4[]
Teaming up with Mulder and Scully, Anders continues to help looking into the situation. Though he discovers Pop Pop and Myrtle have a siutaiton with The Dufuses and the trio are able to work with the rest of the Resistance to find a cure realizing how AAARRGGHH!! was healed can work here. The Group later also help find out about the Dufus situation and they are able to assist their allies in leaking the Dufus's activites.
Chapter 5[]
Anders helps the team rescue The Streaming Resistance members that were frozen by N.Tropy's forces and while they can't thaw them out, he is able to steal a component of Slade's devices and uses it as part of the plan they have to bring back Hilda, Jaune, Johanna and Frida. Though he is nearly killed himself and goes to a hospital and tells the others to deal with that guy for him.
Book 3: Culmination[]
Anders returns with the rest of the team and joins up with Team Free Will with Luz, Sid, Eclipsa and Hlida to go rescue Mulder and Scully and put an act against N.Tropy and his plans. He is trusted by Johanna despite some of Jaune's mistrusts though he does back off when realizing the whole team will have a eye on him. Anders shows he has some sense of maturing into being more responsible as he does assist the heroes in getting closer to the truth and while someone does die, Anders isn't responsible in any way for it. Anders does regroup with the rest of Team Free Will and The Streaming Resistance as he prepares to help deal with N.Tropy who Hilda and her friends are out to get N.Tropy as a way to get back at him for ruining Trolberg and for targeting his daughter.

Hilda[]
Anders has a good relationship with his daughter Hilda, who shares his sense of adventure. Whenever he visits, the two have a great time. Though not much in her life and Hilda did give her dad some grief over this. Hilda questions why Jaune Arc and Lydia Lopez distrust him as much as they do and defends him from the two when Jaune shows inability to work with him and Lydia when she calls him a deadbeat who abandoned Hilda and her mom. Anders may have also passed on his relationships troubles too to her, considering his commitment issues with Johanna and inability to get along with Jaune mirrors Hilda's situation with Lydia and Lincoln, he himself even realized this.
Johanna[]
He is on friendly terms with Johanna, but she has no high opinion of him due to his tendency to always run off on another adventure, sometimes being gone for years. . Whatever their relationship was in the past, they are no longer lovers in the present day but just friends at best. He does still have feelings for her but feel challenge from Jaune and doesn't approve of Johanna keeping her fairy origins from Hilda. He lets go of attempting any getting back together attempts as he realizes the whole thing going between Johanna, Jaune and himself might have given Hilda reason to think acting that way was acceptable.
Jaune[]
Jaune is Johanna's new husband and Anders meets him and doesn't get along with him albeit not to the extent Jaune dislikes him. Jaune dislikes him for abadoning his daughter and ex wife and seeing him as a troublesome influence to Hilda. He also dislikes Anders for stalking Hilda's friends to find her and threats harm to him if he does anything to harm the ones he considers his family. They do though have similar thoughs to each other and both get along with Mulder and Scully while thinking high of them and both of do care about Hilda. They also both has a previous encounter with the Streaming Resistance (Will Byers for Anders and Enid Sinclair for Jaune). While not fully trusting him, Jaune realizes Anders is by no means the worst father after learning of Peacemaker's own father and Anders realizes his beef with Jaune may have encouraged Hilda to quarrel with Lydia over Lincoln. Deep down Anders questions why Jaune takes such issue with him in the past as he never did anything to Jaune.

He meets Lincoln in Royal Woods as he wanted to see Hilda, and Anders stalked Lincoln and Lydia to find her. The two were uncomfortable with him stalking them, and Lincoln shows a bit of distrust over him and his constantly abandoning Hilda's Family albeit not as bad as Lydia or Jaune as he still wanted to hear his adventures at the start.
Lydia Lopez[]
Anders meet Lydia in Royal Woods when he wanted to see Hilda. Anders stalked her as well as Lincoln to find Hilda when he did meet them. Lydia was uncomfortable with Anders tailing her to find his daughter, going so far to refer to him as a father in name only to Hilda. Considering Jaune her real father. Like Jaune, She doesn't trust Anders and voices her discomfort to the surprise of Hilda Ironically Lydia and Anders both are the Bettys to Anders's daughter Hilda and Jaune Arc's Betty for Lincoln and Johanna's Archies. Her real reason for having such distrust in him is the fact he abandoned his ex wife over his love of adventuring and her general dislike of family abandonment which comes from her own experiences. Anders does deeply question why Lydia can't trust him despite her bond with his ex wife and virotic but close friendship with his daughter.

Anders is a huge fan of Mulder's supernatural work and felt inspired by Mulder and his work in the supernatural. He is also has kept track of his paranormal phenomena to the tee and wants to meet him in person. He gets excited and pleased when he learns Hilda and Johanna have met him for real and even more so when he is hired by the two to work with them on their cases as a way to settle down and be able to keep close connection with his biological daughter.
